Philippe begun his career at Vasco da Gama, before moving to Internazionale. Aged 21, Coutinho has never been a prolific scorer, but rather a player who has shown immense potential. Bought by Liverpool for 8.5 million pounds, it was expected that Philippe would take a year or so to develop and adapt to the English style of football. Surprisingly, under the management of Rodgers, Philippe quickly adapted to the league and started to produce goals and assists for the 121 year old club. Greater expectations will now be placed on Coutinho, as Liverpool begin to push for a top 4 placing!
Reasons to start with Coutinho
- Averaged extremely highly in the per 90 minute category
- Starting role is assured, and with a lack of depth, expect him to play majority of games
- Coutinho averaged 8 points per game in the 4 matches Suarez missed through suspension
- Great pre-season form
- Mid classification
- Positive early fixtures
Reasons to not start with Coutinho
- Only 12 games of EPL experience
- May get more attention this season
- No free kicks
- High price
Philippe is the type of player who could set you behind the eight-ball or give your side a significant boost. Given his end to last season, expectations are high on the Brazilian. I'm concerned that he may not be able to perform to the exceptionally high standards that he set himself last season, although his pre-season has suggested that he may well continue in that exact form! In a high percentage of sides, it's certainly a decision which will effect you either way. So do you plan to grab Coutinho or see how he goes early on?
